My Jams - June 2018

In June I listened to music from 327 albums by 263 different artists.

Radiohead topped the artist chart again with Olafur Arnalds in a not too distant second place. I was quite surprised that he didn't crack the top ten in either of the last two months as he's one of my go-to artists whatever my mood!

Other notable entries were Max Richter, his album Sleep is a masterpiece (and also 8 hours 24 mins long) and Under The Influence Of Giants who I hadn't listened to in a long while.

If you are so inclined, follow me on last.fm or Spotify, and if you have any album recommendations please send them my way. Happy listening! 👋

My jams | May 2018

If it looks like I went on a bit of a Radiohead binge in May... You are very much correct! I hadn't listened to them in ages and I'd definitely forgotten how good they are. So I made amends in spectacular style!

Jonas Bonnetta is the only new discovery to crack my Top 10 lists from May. His album All This Here is excellent.

In total, I listened to music from 197 albums and by 149 different artists.

If you are so inclined, follow me on last.fm or Spotify, and if you have any album recommendations please send them my way. Happy listening! 👋

Five Things #104
cambridge ross farley.jpg

Every Wednesday I share five things I've liked and think you might like too. Here are this week’s Five Things…

  1. A great video explaining the "hidden" syncopation in one of my favourite Radiohead songs. I forget just how good Radiohead are at times.

  2. The sound illusion that makes Dunkirk so intense.

  3. What a world we've created: "Of all the mammals on Earth, 96% are livestock and humans, only 4% are wild mammals"

  4. Austin Kleon asks "What do you want to learn?"

  5. As it's above, here's a wonderful live version of that Radiohead song.

That's all for this week. If you enjoyed it, subscribe and you'll get the next one delivered to your inbox.

ps. There'll be no Five Things next week, but normal service will resume the following the week!

Five Things #60

Every Wednesday I share five things I've liked and think you might like too. Here are this week’s Five Things…

  1. A fun video exploring a question with a potentially scary answer... "How long do you think it will take before machines do your job better than you do?"

  2. Radiohead's Creep performed on the Gayageum (a traditional Korean stringed instrument dating back to the 6th Century.)

  3. Habits or Goals? A great article exploring why you should focus on building positive habits rather than setting goals: "While goals rely on extrinsic motivation, habits are automatic. They literally rewire our brain."

  4. A cool video that uses the Schlieren Imaging method in slow motion to reveal the invisible.

  5. The week's musical recommendation is Love Is To Die by Warpaint. I really love this song but it's Stella Mozgawa's drumming on this track is that makes it for me.
