Five Things #70

Every Wednesday I share five things I've liked and think you might like too. Here are this week’s Five Things…

  1. Marc Maron interviewed drumming legend Steve Jordan on his WTF Podcast. They talk about music, drumming, Steve's background and his collaborations with Keith Richards, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Chuck Berry... I could go on, he's played with pretty much everyone!

  2. J.K Rowling on tolerance and free speech.

  3. One of many stunning photos of Jupiter taken by NASA's Juno probe and edited by Sean Doran. Being able to see Jupiter in such detail is an amazing thing.

  4. A good post on how to get more out of what you read.

  5. This week's music recommendation is actually a collaboration between the podcast Song Exploder (one of my favourites) and Google called Inside Music. The experiment lets you explore the different musical layers of a number of songs, recombining them as you see fit. Pretty cool!

Five Things #45

Every Wednesday I share five things I liked and think you might like too. Here are this week’s Five Things…

  1. I love this... "Kids draw monsters, then artists from all over the world recreate them in their own styles!" — The Monster Project

  2. A thought for the day from wise man Seth Godin — The smoking lounge

  3. A fascinating read on Why Facts Don't Change Our Minds. It's easy to have strong opinions on complicated issues that are based on very little information. There's nothing wrong with strong opinions, but we have to be willing to change them when presented with new information.

  4. Whenever I hear someone say "I could care less" in place of "I couldn't care less" a shiver runs down my spine. I don't have many pet peeves, but that's definitely one! Here's Merriam-Webster's attempt to clear up the confusion — Is it 'I Could Care Less' or 'I Couldn't Care Less'?

  5. This week's musical recommendation: St Vincent performing Your Lips Are Red at Austin City Limits in 2014. They know how to put on a show...

Five things #24

Every Wednesday I share five things I liked and think you might like too. Here are this week’s five things…

  1. Two great pieces on having ideas. A 5-Step Technique for Producing Ideas and How to have an idea (this one's my favourite!)

  2. More wisdom from Seth Godin (he's a regular feature here!). The chance of a lifetime.

  3. I often like to try to imagine what the future will be like. Where technologies like artificial intelligence, driverless cars and virtual reality will take us, and how they'll change our lives. Last week, I came across the article 'Speak, Memory'. It's a fascinating read about something I'd not given much thought to at all. How the technologies that help shape our lives, change our relationship with death. It might sound morbid, but it's a brilliant piece that's well worth reading. — "When her best friend died, she rebuilt him using artificial intelligence"

  4. Anohni on art, corporations and the music industry. Her thoughts on the state of the music industry particularly resonated with me. (Don't be put off by the weird text formatting or colour scheme of the website!)

  5. "Yes!" to all of these. 33 thoughts on reading by Austin Kleon.
